About this pièce
One of the delightful aspects of the Jardin is the gallery of 20 Queens and noblewomen of France, arranged around the basin and central lawn. Commissioned in the mid-1800’s, these statues testify to some of the remarkably powerful and inventive women in French history.

It is also easy to imagine a secret romantic tryst taking place in the garden, perhaps inspired by the voluptuous, and famously promiscuous, Duchesse du Berry.

Fifth in the series of works inspired by the Jardin du Luxembourg, this piece references both those statues and the romantic possibilities of hidden trysts.
